San Diego-based Baker Electric Solar is pleased to announce it has won the coveted 2016 Better Business Bureau (BBB) Torch Award for Ethics. Submissions for this award in the 100 – 249 employees category come from San Diego, Orange and Imperial Counties. In 2014 and 2015, Baker was named one of two Torch Award finalists. This year the company achieved the BBB’s highest honor. The 19th Annual Torch Awards Luncheon Ceremony was held on November 29 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla in San Diego, California.

The Torch Awards for Ethics honors companies whose leaders demonstrate a high level of personal character and ensure their organization’s business practices meet the highest standards of ethics. These companies exemplify the traits and values required to generate a high level of trust among their employees, customers and communities. Recognition of these exceptional levels of business confidence are represented by the annual Torch Award winners and the BBB’s continuing mission to advance marketplace trust.

“We’re incredibly honored the BBB has recognized Baker with the Torch Award. Ethics, trust and integrity have been guiding principles for the Baker Electric family of companies for more than 78 years,” said President Mike Teresso. “To us, the Torch Award represents our on-going commitment to bring the highest business values to every one of our over 6500 customers, while empowering our employees for success and giving back to the community.”

Each company that submitted for the 2016 award was required to address six ethics categories including leadership commitment to ethical practices; communications of ethical practices; leadership practices to unify the organization; organizational commitment to performance management; ethical human resource practices and community involvement. The six winners and nine finalists were chosen by an independent panel of respected San Diego business leaders. Company categories were determined by number of employees.

The Baker Electric Solar 180-page entry document detailed its commitment to its exceptional standards communicated to and implemented by employees. It included real examples of the company’s core values “in action” as well as its vision and mission. The document also included verifiable evidence of how Baker’s strict code of business ethics benefit its customers, suppliers, stakeholders and the local community. In addition, the entry included a detailed section illustrating Baker’s truth in advertising and promotional materials as well as customer testimonials.
