Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) August 15, 2006
More than 20,000 delegates from all over the world came together for the 16th and largest International AIDS conference ever. The six day conference opened this past weekend in Toronto with a call for the disease to be wiped out by 2031, as the world's wealthiest man, Bill Gates, vowed to spur the fight against the killer of 25 million people.
Dr. Lowe, who spearheads Phoenix Global Communications & Media Group, LLC (parent company of Ballroom Rock Star Magazine -- the World’s First Urban Gay Men’s Lifestyle Magazine) says that he has a responsibility to the urban LGBT community to use its fast growing readership of over 77,000 (spawned from the magazine's 9 month existence) to ensure that they become more aware of the disease and its impact, how and where to get tested and to provide preventive information.
Separate from the urban community at large, the urban gay audience controls $200 billion in annual spend. As a result, urban and urban gay media vices have become attractive to advertisers as a tool to reach a valuable market that has not been exclusively targeted until recently. It is now advantageous to use the reach fueled by the urban community’s multi-billion dollar buying power to disseminate the placement of HIV/AIDS editorials, resource advertisements and advancements such as the new drug called MK-0518 (which has scientists and delegates equally encouraged by the latest results of this new drug therapy that inhibits HIV's ability to enter human cells and replicate).
In response to the fact that over 50% of all new cases of HIV infections in America are among Black Americans (according to the Kaiser Foundation and CDC), Phoenix Global has committed to maintaining the presence of information in Ballroom Rock Star Magazine, Ballroomrockstar.com and through the inception of The Annual Crystal Awards Ceremony, an innovative way to raise awareness and funds around the HIV/AIDS epidemic and simultaneously recognize the outstanding contributions of individuals in the urban gay community that compete in the Ballroom Community throughout the United States as well as those individuals outside of this community who have continuously brought awareness or inspiration to the community at large. The Crystal Awards is one engine that Dr. Lowe hopes will continue to build momentum in this battle for our lives.
Twenty five years later it is Dr. Lowe’s is confident that this International AIDS 2006 conference will harness the knowledge, skills and commitment of those dedicated to fighting AIDS and HIV. Through the formation of his own personal strategic alliances with advocates such as Phil Wilson of the Black AIDS Institute and Chairman Julian Bond of the NAACP, Dr. Lowe leads by example and today has signed the pledge to end the AIDS epidemic, both physically and mentally. He also challenges his peers in the Urban Gay Community and the Hip Hop Industry alike to use their influence and join him in a commitment to Black America around the issue of AIDS.
