185 glamorous guests joined a host of celebrities and VIPs at the 10th Pure Leisure Group Charity Ball on Saturday (July 7). The annual event was hosted by Pure Leisure Group owner John Morphet, who also acted as auctioneer and Totally Barbados had the pleasure of reporting.

The recipient charity is North West based Moodswings an independent voluntary organisation which in recent years was named Community Group of the Year before going on to win the prestigious Queens Award for Voluntary Service in recognition of the valuable work it carries out. Moodswings received a £45,000 donation from the event in 2011, and a further £25,000 this year making a grand total of £70,000

Guests travelled from across the country to attend the colourful ball near Milnthorpe, which featured an auction of prizes that included luxury holidays in Barbados, exquisite jewellery from Diamonds International and signed memorabilia from TV and Sporting Celebrities.

Adeline Lister, Marketing Director with main sponsors, Caribbean based Diamonds International jetted in especially for the event with a glittering array of items for the auction which raised £15,000 from eager bidders.

Jennie, who supports her dad Tom, with Moodswings, described the evening as a “Fantastic success. Everyone had such a wonderful night, we enjoyed great company, entertainment, food and dancing and the best part of the whole evening was that we raised an awful lot of money for an incredible cause.”

Tom McAlpine spoke in detail to the guests about how Manchester based Moodswings provides help to a wide range of people. Severe depression and anxiety, can affect any individual and any family, but people often find real help and support difficult to find.

Moodswings was set up over ten years ago to work with people from all walks of life who are struggling to cope with serious emotional distress.

Pure Leisure Group owner John Morphet, who has a string of award-winning UK holiday parks as well as the exclusive Royal Westmoreland estate in Barbados, has raised over £500,000 for good causes since he started hosting charity balls in the grounds of the home where he grew up.
