Dallas, TX (Vocus/PRWEB) April 06, 2011
Dallas bariatric surgeon Dr. David Kim and the Live Life Again Center for Bariatric Surgery are sponsoring a free weight loss surgery giveaway. Patient submission packets and additional contest information are available online at Dr. Kim’s weight loss surgery website. The registration period is currently open and will close April 19, 2011, at which time the Live Life Again team will choose 10 potential patients to visit the practice for evaluations. Selected candidates will be required to record a 2-3 minute video for the online voting portion of the contest and explain why bariatric surgery would allow them to live their lives again.
Research from the National Institute of Health (NIH) demonstrates a direct correlation between patients classified as “overweight” or “obese” and increased risks for a range of conditions, including coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and breast and colon cancer. An overweight patient has a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher, while an obese patient has a BMI of 30 or higher. Additionally, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), obesity accounted for $147 billion in healthcare costs in 2008.
However, what these statistics do not consider are the tasks many overweight or obese patients struggle to complete each day. As an American Society for Bariatric Surgery designated Center of Excellence®, the Live Life Again Center and Dr. Kim have been changing the lives of many patients throughout the Dallas-area and across the nation. Dr. Kim says offering this weight loss surgery contest is an important step in continuing to inspire many patients to take the necessary steps toward a dramatic transformation and healthy lifestyle changes.
