Houston, TX (PRWEB) August 23, 2011
Texas Laparoscopic Consultants is a weight loss surgery practice in Houston offering single incision bariatric procedures such as the single incision sleeve gastrectomy and LAP-BAND System®. As part of their continuing commitment to provide the safest and most effective technology available, board-certified bariatric surgeons Dr. Terry Scarborough and Dr. Sherman Yu are announcing the completion of the first LGCP, or gastric plication in Houston.
According to the doctors, this new bariatric procedure has been around for about two years overseas, and is now available to patients in the U. S. with a body mass index of 35 or more. The procedure is intended to be less-risky than other traditional methods of weight loss surgery because it does not require the removal or rearrangement of the stomach or bowel, and eliminates the need for foreign devices such as gastric bands or staples. Dr. Yu says the procedure is unique in this way: “With the gastric plication, we are trying to mimic a gastric sleeve without cutting or removing any of the stomach.”
According to the doctors, patients who have undergone the gastric plication are losing about 60 to 65% of their excess body weight. However, regardless of whether they are performing a more traditional weight loss procedure such as a gastric bypass, or the innovative plication procedure, Dr. Yu says the practice’s ultimate goal is to help each one of their patients achieve a healthy and permanent transformation.
