Maryland's premier site for waterfront weddings and corporate outings celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion, the club is giving a very deserving engaged couple the wedding of a lifetime. Captain Ferris Butler and his fiancé Laura Sauriol, whose story of friendship leading to love is amazing in itself, will wed on October 4th with a ceremony and reception hosted by the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club and several local wedding vendors.
The couple searched for a wedding venue and "fell in love" with the Chesapeake Bay Beach Club. "We were trying to decide how to commemorate the Club's first decade and the thought of doing a public event during this difficult economy just did not feel right. So as we were searching for just the best way for our company to celebrate our milestone, we met Ferris and Laura and heard their story. Throwing them a wedding seemed the right thing to do, and our entire organization wants to do everything we can. They are a wonderful young couple who have done so much for our country - now it's our turn and we are happy to give something back to them," said Beach Club owner John Wilson.
Ferris and Laura first met in 2006, when Ferris was an inpatient after sustaining war injuries and Laura was volunteering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC with Operation Second Chance. After losing touch, by chance, they ran in to each other again in 2008 while Ferris was receiving outpatient care. A series of Friday night dinners deepened to love and resulted in a marriage proposal in front of a White House Christmas tree during a special tour, Ferris asked, and Laura accepted!
The enthusiasm of giving back is shared by several wedding vendors who have volunteered to donate their services toward the couple's dream wedding. DBryant Photography, Fiona's Cakes & Pastries, Absolute Entertainment and Black Eyed Susan, are all working with the couple to plan their dream wedding. Don Thompson whose company is photographing the happy couple said "When Laura and Ferris stepped into my studio for the first time, I felt I was in the presence of a war hero and an angel from heaven above. As a veteran of the United States Navy, I truly appreciate the sacrifice our men and women give every day. This opportunity to give my talent is such an honor and I am so excited to be a part of Laura and Ferris's big day." Julie Black, their florist said "These soldiers provide the blanket of freedom and protection under which we all live. My husband and nephew are Marines - it is the least I can do to contribute to this very special occasion."
The couple received the call about the gift wedding on Memorial Day this year and were "shocked and completely awed" as put by Bride-to-be Laura. She states that the dream wedding will be a celebration of their love for each other, the end of Ferris' five year journey in the military and three years of rehabilitation. "This is our opportunity to share our special day with our family and friends and to bring together, and humbly thank the countless people who have impacted our lives and supported Ferris when he needed it most."
