New partnership provides physicians with the ability to continue to dictate patient notes while populating the EMR with discrete data for meaningful use.

The ability to automatically populate key data points with codified data, without performing time consuming data entry will appeal to many physicians in our market. We anticipate a great deal of success via our integration with BayScribe.

BayScribe announced the successful integration of the BayScribe Clinical Documentation System (CDS) with the SynaMed EMR, providing the ability to populate structured, coded data via XML into discrete data fields within the EMR from dictated and transcribed reports. SynaMed is an emerging player in the small practice EMR space with over 2,000 physicians utilizing the Meaningful Use certified EMR. This partnership provides physicians the capability to continue to conduct business-as-usual, meet the Meaningful Use criteria and apply for reimbursement.

Steve Bonney, Vice President of Business Development at BayScribe made the announcement. “Physicians are being told that they have to adopt EMR technology for the advancement of healthcare in America, and we agree. We just don’t believe physicians should have to change the way they interact with patients.” With physician adoption well documented as a key inhibitor to EMR proliferation, the companies believe that those physicians who prefer traditional methods of documentation, like dictation and handwriting, will be particularly excited. Back Kim, MD, CEO of SynaMed sees this as “the EMR marketplace taking a huge leap forward. The ability to automatically populate key data points with codified data, without performing time consuming data entry will appeal to many physicians in our market. We anticipate a great deal of success via our integration with BayScribe.” Through this strategic relationship with SynaMed, BayScribe reinforces its position as the leader in providing innovative ways to meet the clinical documentation needs in this challenging and advancing healthcare information technology (HIT) environment.

The partnership with SynaMed brings a new solution not previously available in the clinical documentation market that supports an organization’s need to expand the accessibility of discreet data within a patient’s medical record. Ron Neuenberger, President of BayScribe concluded, “BayScribe’s vision of producing a codified transcribed document is critical in meeting the efficiencies and requirements for Meaningful Use reporting, especially in the small practice physician market space. Healthcare organizations are able to capture the coded data without imposing workflow changes on clinicians. This is essential for the adoption of new technology and is a win-win for all involved: transcriptionists, clinicians and the healthcare community at large.”

Practices are struggling with how to capture as much structured documentation as possible to produce the required Meaningful Use reporting. Clinicians want to maintain their current clinical workflow methods while preserving the clinical intent of their captured words, including dictation and handwriting. BayScribe provides the solution to these challenges with the integration of Rover INK, NLP, IMO and CDA into the CDS – termed ‘The CURE’ – and the population of the discrete data into SynaMed.
