BBB serving Central, Coastal and Southwest Texas is proud to celebrate the success of Military Saves Week 2010. Celebrating the launch of a new national financial readiness curriculum designed to assist servicemen and women in planning for retirement, BBB Military Line Director, Mrs. Holly Petraeus, conducted over 20 events in 4 Texas cities during the week of February 21 – 28, 2010.
“We encourage our military men and women to save money, spend wisely and spend with businesses they can trust,” said Mrs. Petraeus. “I think the state of Texas loves its military personnel, so Central Texas was a perfect place to launch and celebrate a new curriculum like this for our servicemembers.”
Mrs. Petraeus made appearances with media, business and community organizations as well as military installations throughout Central and Coastal Texas. Her travels culminated in a reception attended by community leaders, elected officials and an overwhelming number of esteemed military servicemen and women. Dignitaries in attendance included Texas State Representative Joe Farias, Brigadier General Joyce L. Stevens, and John Henry McDonald, chairman and founder of Austin Asset Management Company, among others.
“It is tough not to be moved to tears as a patriotic American surrounded by so many military members in one room,” said Carrie A. Hurt, President and CEO of BBB serving Central, Coastal and Southwest Texas. “Mrs. Petraeus brings increased awareness to what BBB Military Line stands for and it was great to see such support during Military Saves Week.”
Mrs. Petraeus unveiled the new BBB Military Line class “Investing for Retirement” to soldiers at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Fort Hood in Killeen and Camp Mabry in Austin during her week in Texas. This new curriculum is just one of a growing number of free financial readiness resources BBB offers to military servicemembers nationwide.
“[The program] was very well-received and you would be proud to see the work going into serving our servicemen and women,” said Brigadier General Joyce L. Stevens, Assistant Adjutant General - Army, and Commander, Texas National Guard.
Special consideration for Mrs. Petraeus’ week in Central and Coastal Texas was provided by BBB Education Foundation, Kusch Financial Group, Fort Hood National Bank, Austin Asset Management Company, McLane Advanced Technologies and Sedgwick, Detert, Moran and Arnold LLP.
“Supporting this program is just one small way for us to show our gratitude toward our military and repay the debt of their service by investing in their future financial goals,” said Eric Hehman, CFP and Chief Executive Officer of Austin Asset Management Company.
