The idea for a "Hotels On the Beach" web site originated when its founders, Jerry and Pat Henderson, booked what they thought was a beach hotel in San Clemente, CA. When they arrived they discovered that the Beachside Inn was nowhere near the beach. The beach was a mile away and there wasn't even a distant ocean view.

This experience set the Henderson's out on a mission to compile a list of hotels that were really on the beach in Baja Norte, California, Oregon, and Washington. For them a beach hotel was either on the sand, on a bluff overlooking the ocean or across the street from the beach with a clear view of the ocean.

Henderson said, "we drove almost 1500 miles of coastline, making out a card on every beach hotel we found." They ended up creating the largest online database of beach hotels. Today their site regularly comes up in the top three search returns when beach lovers search for "beach hotels."

With their database of beach hotels, they needed to create a web site to showcase the fewer than 250 real beach hotels on the west coast that the Hendersons found. To cover the costs of the web site, Pat, with her background in media sales, took on the task of finding advertisers for their site "Hotels On the Beach." She decided to start with an area they knew best, and a beach hotel that they had stayed at. Laguna Beach was the town. The Laguna Riviera, the beach hotel.

Pat said that ,Bob, the Laguna Riviera property manager, was excited to have the opportunity to advertise on this new media, the Internet. She says, "thirteen years have passed. The Laguna Riviera is still advertising with us and the Laguna Riviera is still family owned by descendants of Harry Willats who built the first rooms of the Laguna Riviera in 1948." Today, property operations and management is overseen by Mr. Willats grandson, Kort Pearson and his wife Kym. They are committed to providing their guests with a true beach hotel experience.

Pat and Jerry note that while they continue to improve their web site, Kort and Kym are making significant improvements at the Laguna Riviera. Kort told us, "while many hotels are cutting back on services and amenities, we see this as a time to move ahead, to make the Laguna Riviera an even better beach hotel. "

At the Laguna Riviera, rooms are being upgraded with new custom furniture, cabinetry, carpet, wall treatments, custom tile work, new window drapery and custom shutters. Many bathrooms have stone counters & stone showers with heavy glass doors. All rooms now have an efficiency kitchen to include a microwave, mini-fridge, & new coffee maker. Each room has a wall mounted HD plasma television and a high end clock radio that can play and charge your iPod or iPhones music, and movies on demand should be ready by summer. There is free property wide High Speed wireless internet. The pool area has new high end furniture and has been completely renovated which includes converting the pool and jacuzzi to salt water. Unlike its' competitors, the Laguna Riviera continues to provide Free Parking, Free Internet Access, and a complementary continental breakfast.

Pat says, "Laguna Beach resembles a European beach town, but with beaches and surf far superior to what you find in Europe. The beach that the Laguna Riviera overlooks is one of Laguna's best. So, you can have a European vacation without leaving the states and at an affordable price."

The Henderson's report that Hotels On the Beach allows hundreds of thousands of people who search the web for beach hotels to find real beach hotels, like the Laguna Riviera, where they can have a great beach vacation and stay within the family budget.
