A recent survey indicates that the British public intend to maintain or increase the amount of money they dedicate to holidays in 2011: 59% of respondents stated that they would spend similarly or more than they did in 2010. Online holiday experts Beat The Brochure are hailing this survey as a good initial indication that 2011 will see an increase in the amount of holidays purchased by the British public. Daniel Ox, the Managing Director of Beat The Brochure comments: “This type of information is very important, many people make their travel plans early in the year, so optimism over holiday spending at this stage is likely to borne out in more bookings over the entire calendar year.”
The survey was conducted by the pollster YouGov on behalf of a chain of popular resorts; it surveyed more than 2,000 people across Britain. Other findings also pointed to a strong year in 2011: 45% of respondents described holidays as their most important luxury, and 76% described their summer holidays as fairly or very important.
Ox believes that these numbers reflect the high importance the British place upon holidays. He comments: “Over the past few decades Britons have begun to travel more and more, and it has become a major part of many people’s lives. Indeed, 45% of respondents describing holidays as their most significant luxury is very significant, as this means that many people find trips away more rewarding than other indulgences.”
Ox concludes that the survey is a good indicator that 2011 will be a strong year for the travel market. He states: “We expect 2011 to be a great year for holidays and, most importantly, we anticipate sending more UK holidaymakers abroad than ever before. Clearly travel is a national passion and we look forward to helping people fulfil their holiday ambitions.”
