Oklahoma City, OK (Vocus) January 19, 2010

The American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE) visits Tulsa, Muskogee and Oklahoma City, January 20 through 23 for live information sessions about its online teaching certification program. In conjunction with these events, Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry has proclaimed January 19 as 'ABCTE Become a Teacher Day' in the state, urging “all citizens of Oklahoma to consider giving back to their community through this rewarding career.”

The free events—designed for anyone interested in changing careers to become a teacher in Oklahoma—are taking place while ABCTE is this month offering a $150 discount on its program, bringing the total cost down to $825. ABCTE will visit Tulsa on Wednesday, January 20, Muskogee on Thursday, January 21 and Oklahoma City on Saturday, January 23.

“We’re honored that Governor Henry issued a proclamation for ABCTE Become a Teacher Day. Oklahoma is our newest state and we’re looking forward to being back there for these information sessions. We had over 400 people attend our sessions on our first trip to Oklahoma last year and we look forward to even bigger turnouts this time,” said ABCTE COO Bonnie Zuckerman.

“These events, whether people attend the in-person or the online version, allow aspiring teachers to learn more about our certification program so they can determine if it’s right for them,” said Zuckerman. “We also recently added an exclusive installment plan program for Oklahoma that will allow people to spread their payments for the program out over eight months.”

The events will include a 45 minute introduction to the program and offer an opportunity to have questions answered in-person by members of the ABCTE staff. Those wishing to get a further look at the program can sign up for a free one week trial, which gives individuals access to the entire ABCTE program before making any commitment to enroll.

“Deciding to change careers to become a teacher is a big step. We want people to be sure of what they’re getting into and to have the opportunity to see all the resources they get through ABCTE, prior to spending any money,” says Zuckerman. “The free trial is a great way for someone to sample the program before they enroll.”

Those interested in receiving $150 off the cost of ABCTE certification can use the discount code NewYears150 in the shopping cart on http://www.abcte.org. The program normally costs $975 ($825 with this promotion). Anyone who attends the events and enrolls on the spot will be eligible to receive additional complimentary study resources.

ABCTE offers certification in eight subject areas in Oklahoma, including the high-need areas of math and science. The ABCTE program is also accepted by eight other states for public schools: Idaho, Florida, Missouri, Mississippi, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Utah. Many charter schools and private schools in other parts of the country also accept ABCTE certification. Overall, ABCTE has issued over 2,000 certifications.
