Bedford Springs Resort has decked its historic halls with recollections of Christmases past and plenty of joy for Christmas present. All month, activities spiced with hearty merriment will fill the resurrected landmark resort snuggled in the Pennsylvania's Allegheny foothills, just a two hour's drive from Washington, D.C.
Along with classic colonial Christmas décor throughout Bedford Springs Resort, America's largest private collection of nutcrackers - more than 500 - will be on display throughout the property through Jan. 1.
Whether your year has been naughty or nice, Bedford Springs Resort guests and visitors alike check this list at least twice for spirited family entertainment sure to make some new holiday memories. A resort photographer is scheduled to be on hand at the children's events to capture the moments.
Enjoy "Breakfast with Santa" on Sunday, Dec. 21 and Wednesday, Dec. 24, in the Crystal Room from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with no reservations required. Children of all ages can visit with Santa.
Sip tea and munch cookies with Santa and his furry friends at the Teddy Bear Tea on Saturday, Dec. 20 and Wednesday, Dec. 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Santa will read a Christmas story and each child receives a holiday snack from the pastry kitchen and special Bedford Springs Resort gift from Santa. Reservations are $35 per child, accepted through the Resort concierge desk.
Assemble a festive gingerbread house, sample the sweet supplies and take home your creations from the Gingerbread House Building and Holiday Cookie Decorating Classes on consecutive Saturdays, Dec. 20 and 27, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Reservations are $35 per adult, $25 per child under 12, and accepted through the Resort concierge desk.
Sleigh rides or carriage rides are scheduled throughout the season, depending on Mother Nature brings to the party, with the horse-drawn options available at $25 per person.
On one of the merriest nights of the year, Christmas Eve Dinner will be served in the Crystal Room and the 1796 Room. Reservations requested.
Christmas Day Brunch will be served in the elegant Colonnade Ballroom, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservations are requested, $52 for ages 13 and older, $22 for ages 6-12, with complimentary brunch for ages 5 and younger.
Strolling singers gather for the Colonial Carolers on Friday, Dec. 19, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Colonial-clad carolers will greet resort guests with Christmas melodies in the main lobby.
Between Christmas Eve and Dec. 29, more treats are in store with activities that include facing painting, magicians, indoor scavenger hunt, "Cookies and Milk with Mrs. Claus," stories and cookie decorating, and a special visit with Santa's elves while they make treats for Santa's reindeer.
View the unique "Dive-In Movie Theater" at the historic indoor pool on Dec. 27. The fun, family flick is complimentary for all resort guests, poolside. You won't even get wet.
Every evening is movie night from Dec. 26-29. See a different family movie each night with complimentary sodas and popcorn in the Buchanan Room.
The General Manager's Holiday Party for all resort guests is on tap for Dec. 28. The seasonal gathering is a perfect time to mingle with the resort's leadership team, while enjoying appetizers and beverages.
