New York, NY (PRWEB) September 29, 2006 -- Bell Curves (http://www.bellcurves.com), a leading innovator in one-on-one, classroom, and online education, is pleased to announce the start of the second year of the Spring Creek Towers (SCT) Saturday Academy this fall. Bell Curves created this innovative program for 3rd to 5th graders of the Spring Creek Towers Community in Brooklyn, NY. The SCT Saturday Academy provides research based supplemental mathematical and language arts instruction during the school year to enable students to meet the New York State learning standards. The program helps students gain greater comfort and proficiency at taking statewide tests.
The program time is divided between the two target areas -- mathematics and language arts -- with each being used to help develop computer skills. The primary goal of the Bell Curves SCT Saturday Academy is to have all participating children meet and exceed grade level competence. Through short lessons, which are reinforced and evaluated with games and activities, the skills needed to succeed at grade level are taught and reviewed. The program introduces and reviews a new concept each week, and each session has a series of planned interactive activities that reinforce the concepts taught. Each activity promotes proficiency in New York State Core Curriculum requirements at or above grade level.
Akil Bello, Vice President of Educational Development at Bell Curves, notes that the SCT Saturday Academy distinguishes itself from standard educational programs. "The use of non-traditional interactive classroom activities fosters an association between learning and enjoyment. The Bell Curves SCT Saturday Academy program is structured to allow much more personal attention for the individual student than is typical in public schools. The program maintains a student to teacher ratio of approximately 8 to 1. This excellent student-teacher ratio allows the teachers to give each child the type of individual coaching that ensures the mastery of concepts children often find difficult."
Bell Curves partners with organizations seeking to aid students in their academic endeavors and to improve access to advanced educational services for those that typically would not be able to afford similar services. Spring Creek Towers, the largest federally assisted, privately owned residential development in the United States, chose Bell Curves to create the Saturday Academy as part of an ongoing effort to better the lives of their youngest residents.
