Berg Injury Lawyers Counts Down to 5,000 Safe Cab Rides Home on New Year’s Eve

For the past six years, Berg Injury Lawyers’ Safe and Sober Cab Ride Home program has been helping keep potentially impaired drivers off the road. In fact, the program is just 89 rides away from providing 5,000 safe rides home, which is expected to be surpassed this New Year’s Eve.

“People really don’t want to put themselves and others at risk," said attorney William Berg, founder and principal of Berg Injury Lawyers. "The Safe and Sober program allows people to go out, enjoy themselves, and exercise good judgment.”

Berg Injury Lawyers offers its Safe and Sober Cab Ride Home to residents in San Francisco, the East Bay, and Sacramento this New Year’s Eve. Due to the program’s overwhelming popularity, a cap of $35 will be placed on each ride home. Patrons must pay any cab fare that exceeds $35.

The Safe and Sober Cab Ride Home program will be offered from 10 p.m. on Friday, December 31, through 4 a.m. on January 1, 2011. For a ride home, simply call one of the following cab companies and tell them the ride is on Berg Injury Lawyers:

• Alameda, Oakland & Berkeley

Call Veterans Cab at (800) 281-4488. Rides home can be given from the East Bay to San Francisco, but not from San Francisco to the East Bay.

• San Francisco

Call Luxor Cab at (415) 282-4141. Rides home must be within San Francisco.

• Sacramento

Call Yellow Cab Company of Sacramento at (916) 444-2222. Patrons must be picked up at a participating restaurant, hotel, or bar within Downtown Sacramento to qualify for a free ride. Rides home must be within Sacramento.

Rides are for adults who have been drinking and will be provided from a bar or restaurant to an individual’s residence—not to other drinking locations. Due to the high number of requests on New Year’s Eve, rides can’t be guaranteed for everyone who calls; however, every attempt will be made to accommodate all requests. Drivers have the right to use their discretion when accepting fares.

Launched in 2004, the Safe and Sober Cab Ride Home program is an ongoing commitment to raise community awareness regarding the dangers of drunk driving. The program encourages individuals to make responsible choices by providing free cab rides home during New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day, Cinco de Mayo, and Halloween.

Safe and Sober has been successful in reducing the number of alcohol-related deaths and injuries by providing thousands of free cab rides and received a Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Alameda County community service award.
