Prominent Health Professional Calls into Question the Benefits of Luxury Brand Skin Care

In last month’s interview with Total Health Magazine Dr. Flora Stay, a prominent health professional and professor at USC, urged consumers to reconsider their commitment to luxury brand skin care, recommending that they seek out skin care based on real science rather than marketing contrivances.

Before you spend money on luxury brands, become informed on what healthy skin means and choose a brand that focuses on skin health rather than skin type.

In an interview of March 2011 Total Health Magazine, Dr. Flora Stay announced that most skin care brands use a basic formula and that most luxury skin care lines are ineffective and a waste of money. Unfortunately, she surmised, consumers often assume that when they pay more for a skin care product, their money is going towards superior, expensive ingredients and scientific research. In reality, however, skin care products are not regulated by the Federal Food & Drug Administration (FDA) and these luxury brands do not have to prove product effectiveness. Rather, the bulk of their revenue is going towards intense marketing campaigns, vanity packaging and, of course, company profits.

Millions of dollars are spent each year by famous luxury brands to market their “miracle” skin care products. Using expensive spokes-models, glossy magazine ads and TV commercials as well as costly designer packaging, these products are touted to address a number of skin problems including dry skin, discoloration, large pores, wrinkles and other age-related issues. The vast majority of these products rarely if ever live up to their claims. This leads the skin care consumer to move from brand to brand, always hopeful that this time, things will be different and the product will deliver the amazing results it promises.

Dr. Stay explains why these products don’t work, “We need a common sense approach to skin health. It has to do with the very nature of skin cells. Everyday skin cells die and new ones are made. If the old ones are not removed properly and your skin not replenished with the right nutrients with the right pH, your skin will remain dull and troubled. Without any other choice, many have gone the route of Botox or cosmetic surgery to help improve their skin, but these things do not address the underlying culprit.”

It became clear to Dr. Stay, the founder of Cleure, that to have healthy skin (following general guidelines for healthy body) the product's formula needed the right nutrients with the proper pH targeting damaged skin. This is why she founded Cleure (clean and pure), a California-based company that has broken the rule of products based on skin ‘types’, and focuses on the significant breakthrough of skin health in general. Cleure has developed new ways to clean your skin, remove dead cells without harsh abrasives, and replenish with vital nutrients to hydrate and maintain healthy skin. Instead of offering many lines of skin care based on ‘type’, their one simple system is meant for all skin, including sensitive skin care needs. Before you spend money on luxury brands, become informed on what healthy skin means and choose a brand that focuses on skin health rather than skin type.

Cleure has developed their salicylate free skin care products with powerful, yet gentle ingredients to target aging skin, sensitive skin, acne prone skin, rosacea, dry skin, oily skin, and the ubiquitous “problem” skin. Cleure is committed to keeping their products affordable by exclusively distributing online and avoiding expensive marketing campaigns as well as non-essential, vanity packaging. In recent months, the Cleure line has become one of the most talked-about sensitive skin care product lines available. It has been rated safe by the highly respected consumer watchdog organization Environment Working Group’s Skin Deep website.
