Despite Google’s drop in search rankings, November sales remain mostly unchanged.

As in all internet related businesses, we need a steady stream of new customers in the pipeline as the shelf-life on email addresses is short. It’s vital to continually attract and acquire new customers.

Big Tall Direct announces that November sales were down 3% from last year in spite of search engine positioning challenges from Google.

Last month, Big Tall Direct, one of the largest online web-sellers of clothes for the big and tall man, reported a precipitous drop in new organic customer traffic. Updated methods by Google severely impacted Big Tall Direct’s search positioning results when users typed in important keywords this selling season.

The best keywords for this retailer have historically included “big and tall”, “big and tall clothes”, “big and tall clothing”, “big and tall sizes”, “mens big and tall”, “big and tall apparel”, and so on. Unfortunately, the Google rankings which have been traditionally very good, are quite poor at present. Other independent online big and tall retailers are also suffering from the new search algorithm.

“I’m relieved that sales didn’t take as big a hit as we feared”, said Rob Schlein, its President. "We relied heavily on email distribution to promote our sales over Black/Friday and CyberMonday. We are happy our sales were only slightly impacted by the Google change, thus far”. He added, “However, as in all internet related businesses, we need a steady stream of new customers in the pipeline as the shelf-life on email addresses is short. For the big and tall man’s demographic, in particular, it’s vital to continually attract and acquire new customers and their contact data.” He concluded, “We will soon be announcing a partnership with a nationally known SEO firm which gives us confidence that our presence can be restored”, said Schlein.

Based in Dallas, Texas, Big Tall Direct is centrally located so that both coasts enjoy speedy delivery even when using ground services from either FedEx or the Postal Service. It began as their online store backed up by a traditional brick and mortar storefront called Dan's Big & Tall in 1997. An early adopter of online selling, it was one of the first merchants to partner with America Online in the late 1990s.

Big Tall Direct welcomes international big and tall customers and ships worldwide with many of its clients in Western Europe, Canada, and even in the Middle East.    New customers who sign up on the email marketing list receive an additional 10% off their first purchase, and much more savings offers throughout the year.
