The World All-Stars to Play in New York City

This upcoming January 1-2, 2011 the New York City Team Handball Club is organizing its second consecutive international team handball tournament “The Big Apple”. It is the largest gathering in US of some of the best handball players and coaches of the world outside Europe, and it's an opportunity for New York City sports fans to have a glimpse of the second most popular team sport in Europe right in their doorstep. The highlight of the event is the All-Star game between the World All-Stars vs. Bundesliga All-Stars.

This New Years Eve, one of the world's most popular sports will again be front and center in the world's greatest city", said Karl Gladeck the president of Teamsportreisen.

New York City's "Big Apple" event is an annual international team handball tournament consisting of six teams assembled from a selection of participating players from different leagues in Germany, and with New York City team handball club representing NYC diverse cultural heritages. One team will be crowned the "Big Apple" champion and earn the coveted trophy.

New York City is often called the world's second home - an international metropolis where people speak 200 languages and live side by side in mutual respect. As a city that celebrates its diversity and is home to countless sports fans, this unique sporting event has a special significance for New York.

"New York City's unparalleled diversity is one of the things that will make this years "Big Apple" so much fun. This New Years Eve, one of the world's most popular sports will again be front and center in the world's greatest city," said Karl Gladeck the president of Teamsportreisen.

This years competition will take place at Riverbank State Park in NYC, January 1-2, 2011. Riverbank State Park is the only park of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. Inspired by urban rooftop designs in Japan, this 28-acre multi-level landscaped recreational facility is a state-of-the-art park facility.

As it was last year, the highlight of the event is the All-Star game, this year between the World All-Stars vs. Bundesliga All-Stars. It is the biggest gathering in US of some of the best players and coaches of the world outside Europe, and it's an opportunity for New York City sports fans to have a glimpse of the second most popular team sport in Europe right in their doorstep.

"Team Handball is extremely popular in other parts of the world, but not in US. Our mission and goal is to give New Yorkers an opportunity to watch some of the legends and best handball players in the world right in their doorstep. We are very excited to organize the second consecutive "Big Apple" tournament, and continue building the cultural relationship between the two countries," said Shkumbin Mustafa, the president of New York City Team Handball Club.

Players like Jackson Richardson, Magnus Wislander, Joel Abati, Enric Masip, Jan Filip, Johann Patersson, Andrei Xepkin, Goran Sprem, Mirza Djomba, Ljubomir Vranjes, and Thomas Svensson will represent the World All-Star team.

One of the worlds legendary goalkeepers Henning Fritz who plays for Rhine Neckar Löwen is joinig the group of All-Stars for the second consecutive year. Alongside him in the Bundesliga All-Stars team he'll have the former captain of the German National team Markus Baur who was the captain of the world champion team Germany in 2007.

The event is organized by Teamsportreisen in collaboration with New York City Team Handball club.

Goldgas, who is the sponsor of the German National team and of the Bundesliga club Rhein-Neckar Löwen will be the main sponsor of the "Big Apple" tournament.

Last years winner of the Big Apple 2010 was Team Stuttgart. Lead by goalie Marcus Romminger, and the MVP of the tournament Jorg Lutzelberger.
