Germany based bioinformatics company BIOBASE today announced the opening of their new subsidiary in Yokohama, Japan. BIOBASE previously entered the Japanese market in 1999 through its distribution partners. The main purpose of this new subsidiary will be the enhancement of customer contact, improved cooperation with partners and the building of a new market for biomarker discovery. "We have worked successfully for many years with our distribution partners and we want to continue improving these relationships by shortening the communication lines" said Michael Tysiak, the CEO of BIOBASE GmbH, Germany.

The establishment of Nihon BIOBASE KK was done within a very strict time frame of only three months. This was only possible due to the professional support from representatives of the City of Yokohama, the Kanagawa Prefecture and last but not least the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). "The cooperation was amazingly effective, any question was taken care of very professionally" said Holger Karas, CEO of Nihon BIOBASE KK and responsible for the company setup. The legal and administrative portion was very adeptly managed by ARQIS of Tokyo.

The new office, located in Shin Yokohama within the new Nisso 16 building, will coordinate the activities of its distributors and establish a new brand of biomarker discovery for both the therapeutic and diagnostic markets. These activities will be launched together with BIOBASE's cooperation partners in Japan, mainly Tokyo University and GNI Ltd. "This new technology as service is tailored for the Japanese market, and we will undertake all efforts to serve the specific needs of our Japanese customers" said Edgar Wingender, Ph.D., President of BIOBASE Germany and of Nihon BIOBASE KK. Dr. Wingender's visit to Japan in May 2007 together with the delegation of the Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Transport of the State of Niedersachsen, Mr. Walter Hirche, had significantly pushed the establishment of the KK.
