Our Firm continues to hear from Biomet hip replacement recipients who have allegedly experienced horribly painful complications associated with the metal-on-metal implant.
New York, NY (PRWEB) June 09, 2013
Bernstein Liebhard LLP notes the scheduling of an upcoming status conference in the federal litigation of Biomet hip replacement claims established in the Northern District of Indiana.
Court records indicate that the next Case Management Conference in the proceeding will be held on June 17th at 9:30 a.m.* Claims pending in this multidistrict litigation have been filed on behalf of individuals who allegedly suffered injuries stemming from the Biomet M2a Magnum Hip Replacement System. According to Biomet hip lawsuits, the metal-on-metal design of the Biomet M2a Magnum implant can generate high metal ion levels, which may cause patients to suffer metallosis and other adverse tissue reactions indicating early failure of the device. Biomet Hip Lawsuits
As of May 2013, more than 140 Biomet hip lawsuits had been filed in the federal multidistrict litigation underway in the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Indiana. These lawsuits allege pain, swelling, loosening of the implant and other complications associated with early hip failure.
As the number of claims involving the Biomet M2a Magnum hip continues to grow in federal court, its manufacturer is in the midst of collecting data for two studies assessing the safety of the metal-on-metal implant. According to a notice posted November 6, 2012 on clinicaltrials.gov, Biomet is enrolling individuals who received the M2a Magnum hip in an observational study to examine adverse tissue reactions that may have been experienced after initial implantation.** The study, which was launched in cooperation with a 2011 surveillance order from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requiring all metal-on-metal hip manufacturers to conduct safety studies on their products, is expected to be completed in December 2014.
Additionally, clinicaltrials.gov published an update on March 6, 2013 regarding another metal hip safety study currently being conducted by Biomet. According to a notice, the company is no longer recruiting participants for a study that has been underway in Japan since 2009.***According to clinicaltrials.gov, final data for the study will be collected in December 2013, and the study is expected to reach completion by December 2021.
Individuals who received the Biomet M2a Magnum hip and allegedly suffered injuries as a result of the device may be entitled to compensation for additional medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering.
