BioSyn Resources LLC completed the first exportation of its ultraclean multi-functional military jet fuel to Europe. As multi-functional fuel, it enables the customer, Tyre Renewals Ltd, to fuel its diesel engines operating in enclosed environments. As ultraclean fuel devoid of hard-to-burn components, it does not produce nauseating fumes.

DM-X Jet D is more than just an ultraclean fuel. It is the world’s first aromatics-free jet fuel.

BioSyn Resources, LLC enters the European market with the completion in February 2012 of the first exportation of its ultraclean multi-functional military jet fuel to England. The customer, Tyre Renewals Ltd, will use it as special fuel for diesel engines driving oil pumps that operate inside buildings.

Tyre Renewals Ltd decided to use this fuel after earlier tests showed that diesel engines running on this fuel emitted no nauseating fumes. The ultraclean fuel itself, marketed under the tradename DM-X Jet D™, is virtually odorless and non-toxic. It contains no toxic components such as aromatic and olefinic hydrocarbons, as well as difficult-to-burn Light Cycle Oil (LCO). As high-Cetane diesel, it burns efficiently with excellent emissions profile. Because of these, DM-X Jet D is ideal for applications in environmentally sensitive areas, such as the marinas, underground mining, congested airports and European seaports.

In addition, DM-X Jet D can be used either as military-grade jet fuel (JP-8), or as commercial diesel (D1/D2). With sulfur content of less than 10 ppm, as well as absence of difficult-to-reform components such as aromatics and olefins, it is an excellent reformer fuel for fuel cells equipped with fuel reformer. In addition, with its low soot production property, it is an ideal fuel for micro-turbines.

DM-X Jet D is a pre-construction version of the ultraclean drop-in military jet fuel that BioSyn’s future feedstock-flexible refinery will produce from a variety of abundantly available endogenous feedstocks.

BioSyn developed DM-X Jet D to demonstrate its many applications prior to the completion of its refinery. BioSyn also intends to seek US military accreditation and approval for this fuel. If used by the military, it will help improve its logistics capability and flexibility because of the fuel’s multi-functional features while helping reduce the US military’s inherent vulnerability to supply disruptions during emergencies.

“DM-X Jet D is more than just an ultraclean fuel. It is the world’s first aromatics-free jet fuel. In order to address the need for controlled seal swelling without the use of aromatics, DM-X Jet D is formulated to have the same solvency level as commercial Jet A-1 with 10% aromatics content,” said Mr. Deo Reloj, BioSyn’s CEO and Chief Technology Officer.

“The US Navy has successfully tested a 50-50 blend of green jet fuel made from vegetable oil, which contains no aromatics, and commercial Jet A-1, which typically contains 20% aromatics. DM-X Jet D has the same solvency power as the Navy’s 50-50 blend, thereby providing sufficient fuel solvency power for controlled seal swelling,” adds Mr. Reloj.
