With your birthday on the way, there’s one question you’ll probably be asked a lot: what present would you like? You may know exactly what you want, but a survey from Dotcomgiftshop.com has revealed that what most people definitely don’t want is the dreaded joke gift.
When asked to rank certain types of present, 48% of people put funny birthday gifts right at the bottom of the list, with both surprises and gift vouchers scoring higher. 26% of people know what they want and aren’t afraid to ask, preferring a present from their list, whereas 29% would rather know nothing at all and be surprised on their birthday. But it was a gift from the heart that won out: 58% of those surveyed ranked thoughtful gifts at number one.
When it comes to giving the best birthday gifts, 38% of people agreed that their partner knows how to make the best buys. It was grandparents who scored the lowest, closely followed by dad with only 0.3%.
The top gift that money can’t buy is quality family time (34%), chosen by more people than a day off work (13%) and breakfast in bed (10%) put together. Those surveyed also shared the worst birthday gifts they’d ever received, including such gems as sweets for a diabetic, alcohol for a pregnant woman, a fly swatter and an extension lead.
Whether you’re giving a present or making a wish list, there are plenty of thoughtful birthday gifts to be found at Dotcomgiftshop.com. And remember: it’s better to tug at the heartstrings than tickle the funny bone!
