Work spaces create an impression on clients as well as employees. Living spaces can affect your mental clarity and focus. Creating a healthy and stimulating office and living environment through color can stimulate productivity as well as enhance morale and boost spirits. With more than one in twenty Americans over twelve experiencing signs of depression - according to the CDC - using color to lift moods and create an inspiring atmosphere is a cost effective way to combat feelings of anxiety, isolation and separation.

While natural light can help combat some of the drabness of these colors, breaking them up with the right window blinds or shades can create a sense of calmness, can reduce glare while still allowing light in to keep body rhythms and bio cycles in tune with nature. Bringing in solar screen shades, soft sheer shades, faux wood blinds, real wood blinds or bamboo blinds can bring in a sense of an earthy, outdoor environment. Some colors that bring in an outside environment are tones of greens, blues and browns.

Bright reds and yellows can create a sense of anxiety and possibly anger. While a splash of color can liven up an office of neutral colors, be careful with your color choice. Lighter yellows closer to the ivory family can calm as can deeper reds filled with blues.

Blue and green rooms already offer a calming effect, so accenting them with a soft ivory or white roman shade or horizontal fabric shade can create a pure, clean sense. However an all white room can feel institutional. Roman and horizontal fabric shades come in a variety of bold colors to accent a white space.

"Color and natural light stimulate the senses," says Ron Manwaring of Blinds Chalet. "Use window blinds and shades to your advantage using fabric or other materials to brighten or soften a room."
