Lifeclinic International, Inc., the world's leading manufacturer and distributor of automated blood pressure monitors and health testing stations, recently endorsed the Healthy Workforce Act (S.803 & H.R.1897) and the Heath Promotion FIRST Act (S.1001 & H.R.2354 in the 111th Congress).
The Healthy Workforce Act would provide a 50 percent tax credit for the costs employers would incur in implementing wellness programs for their employees. The bill was introduced by Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and John Cornyn (R-TX) and Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Mary Bono Mack (R-CA).
To be eligible for the credit, the Act requires that wellness programs include three of the following four components: health education, participation monitoring, behavioral change and a supportive environment for healthy lifestyles.
The Health Promotion FIRST Act would provide for increased planning and funding through the Department of Health and Human Services for health and wellness promotion programs to help determine the best ways to reach the greatest number of people with the most effective programs to improve their health through lifestyle change.
