New lead for Financial Services Risk Management & Regulatory Risk Consulting Practice

Bluerock Consulting, the financial services management consultancy, has hired Andrew Shiels as Partner to lead the company’s Financial Services Risk Management & Regulatory Risk Consulting Practice. Andrew Shiels joins from avantage Reply Ltd and has in excess of 20 years experience in financial services.

Andrew started his career with Royal Bank of Scotland on their Accelerated Management Development Programme, rapidly gaining experience in retail and corporate banking, treasury & capital markets, group internal audit and laterally holding a senior finance and strategy role with Royal Bank Insurance Services Ltd. He subsequently broadened his industry sector experience, holding senior risk management roles in industry with Baillie Gifford & Co, Royal London Group and Standard Life plc. In more recent years he has applied his wide risk and regulatory experience in senior management consulting roles, most recently with KPMG and avantage Reply.

Andrew Shiels biography:
Andrew has significant industry experience of working with UK financial institutions in a variety of sectors (retail banking, general insurance, life and pensions, treasury & capital markets and investment management) as a senior risk practitioner. He has worked in industry for Royal Bank of Scotland plc, Baillie Gifford & Co, Royal London Group and Standard Life plc. In more recent years, Andrew has used this valuable industry knowledge and experience as a senior management consultant working for KPMG and, more recently, avantage Reply.
Andrew has a rare combination of skills & experience in financial services risk management, regulatory risk, corporate strategy and business performance improvement. This has enabled him to work with many of the world’s leading financial services firms (often at CEO/Board level) in helping them enhance their management of risk, effectively implement major organisational change and improve their ultimate performance and profitability. He has particular depth of knowledge and experience around the management of operational, strategic and conduct of business regulatory risk and managing large and complex projects for major financial services clients. He has also led a number of large FSMA Section 166 Skilled Persons Reviews on behalf of the FSA.
He holds an MBA degree from the School of Business at Oxford University, is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland (FCIBS), holds a Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment qualification, and is a Member of the Chartered Management Institute and the Institute of Management Consultants.
