BlueRock Energy, Inc., a premier provider of electricity, natural gas and green energy products, today announced it will sponsor the eighth season of “Double Down,” WCNY’s award-winning academic quiz show that will feature students from 32 high schools across Central New York. Premiering November 4th, “Double Down” airs at 6 p.m. on Sundays on WCNY channel 24.1 and repeats at 8:30 p.m. on Mondays on WCNY channel 24.3.
“We’ve worked with the WCNY team for a few years now and it’s a pleasure to once again take part in the ‘Double Down’ competition,” said Phil Van Horne, president and CEO of BlueRock Energy. “This year’s competing teams are very impressive, and we can’t wait to see them in action.”
Van Horne will present the winning school with the BlueRock Energy Scholastic Award Championship Trophy, as well as monetary awards to the first and second place winners.
The new season of “Double Down” will include a single elimination format. WCNY on-air host, Bill Baker, will moderate each session, quizzing teams in the categories of arts and literature, current events, English language, history and geography, math, science and sports.
The “Double Down” teams include last season’s champion, Fayetteville-Manlius, along with competitors from Bishop Ludden, Cato-Meridian, Christian Brothers Academy, Paul V. Moore, Chittenango, Clinton, Cooperstown, Dolgeville, Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton, Ithaca, Jamesville DeWitt, Jordan-Elbridge, LaFayette, Manlius Pebble Hill, Mt. Markham, New Hartford, Northern Onondaga LEAH, Nottingham, Oneida, Oriskany, Port Byron, Pulaski, Rome Catholic, Solvay, Southern Cayuga, Union Springs, Vernon Verona Sherrill, Westhill, Westmoreland, Whitesboro and Whitney Point.
