With the launching of BNI in the Philippines on January 18, 2007, BNI celebrated its existence in 37 countries and the organization's numbers for 2006 certainly prove that no matter what culture the members of BNI are a part of -- they all certainly do "speak the language of referrals" (as one of the organization's coined phrases asserts).

Last year, BNI generated 4.9 million referrals, totaling 1.9 billion U.S. Dollars in value to members. Sharon Gonzales, who shares the title of National Director of BNI in the Philippines with Sim Chow Boon, explained that part of the reason for BNI's global success is its philosophy of "Givers Gain." BNI is successful and relatable anywhere in the world because it is rooted in the idea of the universal law of reciprocity. That's what "Givers Gain" is all about -- BNI members focus first on how they can refer other members' businesses, causing those receiving the benefit to be excited to refer business back to them.

Sim Chow Boon affirmed the usefulness of BNI and business networking regardless of culture or geographic location by saying, "It doesn't matter where we are, business people still need referrals."
