The first Board Shorts Film Festival took place earlier this year in February 2012, was successfully executed, filled with a sold out crowd and great reviews. With the overwhelming attention and quality of successful feedback it was decided that the festival be held each year annually. The favorable outcome of the 2012 festival helped create an opportunity for both amateur and professional filmmakers to make a name for themselves. Also the intention of the festival was to provide female surfers with a place to recognized and acknowledge for their attributes and talents. The Boardshorts film festival stands as the only global surf film festival specifically surrounding women in surf.
Now that the date of the 2013 Board Shorts Surf Film Festival is set, "the San Diego Surf Ladies invite filmmakers, male and female, around the world to submit their short film featuring female surf talent." Each entry will be judged before a panel featuring judges from various art, film and surf enterprises. The festival will take place during the evening at Bird's Surf Shed.
