Westwood, MA (PRWEB) August 13, 2010

The event, held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, was attended by an estimated 8,000 people including graduates and several individuals of prominence. Among them were the Mayor of Cambridge, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy’s wife, Victoria Reggie Kennedy, celebrated writer Chinua Achebe, and New Yorker cartoonist Roz Chast. Duncan delivered the Commencement Address and honorary degrees were bestowed upon Chast, Achebe and Reggie-Kennedy, who also accepted an honorary degree on behalf of her husband. The university conferred over 2,700 degrees.

According to SmartSource Regional Sales Manager Bob March, “We were very proud to have been a resource to Lesley University for this major milestone commencement ceremony. We have enjoyed a working relationship with the University since 2007, providing AV support on a regular basis to multiple departments and for diverse events including many large-scale, university-wide events for the Centennial and the Office of Advancement among others.”

In addition to the 2010 commencement, SmartSource has provided audio-visual equipment for such Lesley University events as the Xu Bing Artist Lecture, Senator Kerry Lecture, Luis Gonzalez Palma Artist Lecture, Jonathan Kozol Lecture, and two Lesley University Reunion Weekends. Among the most challenging other than the recent commencement exercises was the “Legacy of Leadership” celebration honoring Lesley University’s former president, Margaret McKenna, which was held at the Kennedy Library in April 2007.

In meeting the University’s needs for its 2010 Centennial Commencement, SmartSource provided a full array of state-of-the-art, high performance audio-visual equipment. It included 14 high luminosity projectors flown from the truss, six 9’ x 16’ and one 13’ x 24’screens flown from the truss, two JBL VerTec sound systems, 20 Meyer UPA/UPJ center fill powered speakers, one Yamaha M7CL digital mixing console, one Eagle pro switch system, and seven Sony HDCamera record setups. Considerable time was required on the organizing and plotting of schematics for the truss layouts and cable runs involved in the equipment set-up. Other challenging aspects of the assignment involved the power rolls in the video signal, and the light control signal choking video sync.

Continued March, “It meant a great deal that Lesley University not only trusted us with this event, but requested our input on what would give their 2010 commencement even more impact. We literally were asked to design a stage plot and projection scenario that would be appropriate for the event – a major responsibility and indication of trust.”

Lesley University’s Director of Public Affairs Bill Doncaster commented, “We take great pride in executing major events flawlessly as it represents the high standards we have set for our institution in all areas. It’s vital to have partners like SmartSource onboard to help ensure that our events proceed as planned. SmartSource continues to be a reliable and responsive resource in meeting our most critical audio-visual requirements.”
