Wilmington, MA (PRWEB) January 5, 2009
Bill Dube and the American Red Cross are asking people to come out and give blood as the recent ice & snow storms that hit New England have canceled blood drives.
Susan Parmer of the Northern New England Region of the Red Cross' blood services, says more than 500 units of blood expected this month have been lost and additional losses are anticipated. Potential donors must be at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors can give blood every eight weeks.
To make an appointment to give blood, or find a Red Cross blood drive, call (800) GIVE-LIFE or visit the Web site http://www.newenglandblood.org.
ABOUT RED CROSS
About 4 million people in the United States need a blood transfusion each year. That's one person every two seconds, and the overwhelming majority would die without it. There is no substitute for blood; volunteer donors are the only source. Blood is needed for emergencies, surgeries, and for people who have cancer, blood disorders and other illnesses. It is safe to give blood every 56 days. Visit http://www.givelife.org today to schedule an appointment at the nearest Red Cross blood donation center or to sponsor a blood drive at your job, school, place of worship or other appropriate location.
