There is a large Irish population in Boston, particularly in South Boston where the parade is held. But even those with no Irish roots get decked out in green and head to South Boston for his hugely popular Boston event.

The Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the second largest in the country and features local marching bands, fire and police units, Irish bands, floats and more. All of South Boston is transformed into a giant celebration of all things Irish.

Many Irish pubs are located along and near the parade route, and parade attendees enjoy stopping in for a pint of beer after the parade. Attendance at the Boston event is typically between 600,000 and 1 million, so it is a good idea to get to South Boston well before the start of the parade, which begins at 1 p.m., in order to secure the best viewing spots along the route.

Parade route:
The Parade starts on West Broadway (easterly), left onto East Broadway, right onto P Street, right onto East 4th Street, right onto East 5th Street, left onto G Street, right onto the Southerly Arm of Thomas Park, left onto Telegraph Street, left onto Dorchester Street, and ending at Dorchester Avenue near Andrew Square.
