Brisbane's Sunspot Removal specialists, Molescreen PDT relaunch their Bowens Disease and Sunspot Removal Treatments. Over 30% of sunspots turn into skin cancer in Brisbane, the skin cancer capital of the world. This statistic led Molescreen PDT's Dr Ian Johnson to research the market over many years to find the most effective treatment to remove sun spots, treat Bowens Disease and also treat thin Basal Cell Carcinomas.
Dr Johnson says "Removing sun spots from the face, scalp, hands and arms is now a relatively straightforward treatment for our PDT service. We have tried many other treatments on the market over the last few years and found them to be inferior to our PDT treatment. Our technology allows us to see the extent of the disease that the naked eye can't see allowing us to treat sunspots that others are missing."
Bowens disease is an early form of skin cancer known as squamous cell carcinoma which commonly affects Australians over the age of 60. It is caused like most skin cancers by overexposure to the sun, particularly from a young age. Current generations of Queenslanders have been better educated to wear hats and sun cream but those born in the 1940's to 1970's were not so lucky. Dr Johnson says "I would never treat Bowens disease or any other form of skin cancer using the most commonly given treatment known as cryotherapy or freezing. We see regular recurrence and scarring when this is used to treat Bowens disease."
Dr Johnson's treatment revolves around PhotoDynamic therapy, a very reliable technology that combines an Aktilite lamp with specialist creams. He says "We offer 2 different levels of service with our PDT treatment, ALA is a highly photosensitizing agent for the removal of sunspots on the head, arms and hands. Metvix is highly effective at treating Bowens Disease and Thin Basal Cell Carcinomas. In both cases scarring is very rare and treatment is monitored and managed by specialists to make sure of an effective outcome."
Beyond the great health benefits that Molescreen PDT's treatments offer, customers regularly report that their skin feels better as well as looks younger. Dr Johnson says "PDT effectively resets the clock on the skin turning aged sun damaged unsightly skin into clear, soft skin. It was never our purpose to create softer younger looking skin but so many of our clients comment to that effect that the cosmetic benefits are consistent."
PDT has a long history in the USA, having been around for over 20 years but Molescreen PDT is one of only a handful of Specialist PDT clinics in Australia.
