Pearson's Brady Publishing and the National Ski Patrol(NSP) have teamed together to publish the fifth edition of Outdoor Emergency Care, the NSP's training program for patrollers and others in the recreation community who deal with emergency situations. The new edition will be available in August 2010.

Developed in the late 1980s as a training program for ski patrollers, the Outdoor Emergency Care program has evolved to address the needs of a broad range of outdoor-based emergency care providers, including wilderness medical technicians, river rafting and mountaineering guides, members of search and rescue groups, mountain bike patrollers, and parks and recreation employees. Today, the program is considered the standard of training for emergency care in the outdoor environment and is recognized by resorts and facilities in all 50 states.

The new edition will focus on NSP's history of service, cover new EMS Education Standards at appropriate levels, and feature a new design and supporting artwork. Topics included are Advanced Rescue Techniques; Patient Care in the Outdoor Environment; Patient Packaging; Teamwork; and EMS Interface.
