Best Friends Animal Society Named Top-rated Animal Welfare Non-profit ‘Brand of the Year’ by Harris Poll EquiTrend

For the second year in a row Best Friends Animal Society http://www.bestfriends.org has been named a Brand of the Year in Harris Interactive’s 2012 Harris Poll EquiTrend study.

We are extremely honored that for the second year in a row Harris Interactive pointed to Best Friends Animal Society as the nonprofit animal welfare organization with the highest brand equity.

For the second year in a row Best Friends Animal Society® has been named a Brand of the Year in Harris Interactive’s 2012 Harris Poll EquiTrend® study. Harris Interactive is one of the world's leading market research firms.

Each year, Harris Interactive measures consumer sentiment toward for-profit and non-profit brands and evaluates both on factors such as familiarity, quality, trust, leadership, emotional connectedness, likelihood to recommend and performance.

In 2012, Best Friends Animal Society was in the company of other notable nonprofits: The American Red Cross, Goodwill, Girls Scouts USA, Stand Up to Cancer and Food for the Poor which each won their category. In 2011 the Harris EquiTrend poll named Best Friends as the nonprofit Brand of the Year when all nonprofits were grouped in one category. In 2012 the study created the several categories for nonprofits: animal, environmental, health, international, social services, disability and youth interest categories.

According to Harris Interactive, Best Friends had the strongest showing among national animal welfare organizations on quality and intent to donate.

Established in 1984, Best Friends Animal Society operates the nation’s largest no-kill animal sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals; operates the Best Friends Animal Society Adoption and Spay/Neuter Services, a unique partnership with the City of Los Angeles with the goal of ending the killing of adoptable animals; through its Best Friends Animal Society Utah program the organization is leading a coalition of animal shelters and rescue groups to take that state no-kill; manages the Best Friends Animal Society No More Homeless Pets Network – a national collaboration of 501 (c) (3) public charity rescue groups, spay/neuter organizations and shelters actively saving lives and reducing kill rates in their communities; and drives national initiatives on a variety of animal welfare issues, including puppy mills, improving the reputation of pit bull terriers, and saving the lives of community cats.

Harris Poll EquiTrend® methodology
A sample of 38,529 U.S. consumers ages 15 and over were surveyed online by Harris Interactive from January 31 through February 20, 2012 and the survey took an average of 40 minutes to complete. The sample was from the Harris Interactive online panel of respondents, a multimillion-member database consisting of cooperative respondents who have double-opted in to be randomly invited by Harris Interactive to take part in online surveys. The total number of brands rated was 1,529. Each respondent was asked to rate a total of 40 randomly selected brands. Each brand received approximately 1,000 ratings. Data were weighted to be representative of the entire U.S. population of consumers ages 15 and over based on age by sex, education, race/ethnicity, region, income, and data from respondents ages 18 and over were also weighted for their propensity to be online. This is the same precision weighting approach Harris has used to become the leading online polling organization when calling elections.
