The intent of this Ordinance is to get potentially dangerous products off the market. This Ordinace does not include our Breathable Bumpers in our opinion.

On September 8, 2011, the city of Chicago became the first city in the U.S. to ban crib bumpers.

“We support this Ordinance and applaud the City Council of Chicago for taking action,” said Marc Grossfield, CEO of BreathableBaby. “The intent of this Ordinance is to get potentially dangerous products off the market. This Ordinance does not include our Breathable Bumpers in our opinion,” Grossfield added.

The language of the Ordinance defines the banned products as follows:
“Crib bumper pad means any padding material, including but not limited to a roll of stuffed fabric, which is designed for placement within a crib to cushion one or more of the crib’s inner sides adjacent to the crib mattress.”

Grossfield continues, “Our Breathable Bumpers are not made from a ‘padding material’ and they are not ‘designed to cushion.’ Traditional crib bumper pads are made from non-breathable padding material and are designed to cushion the inside of the crib. BreathableBaby’s breathable bumpers are made from non-padded, breathable, thin spacer-mesh fabric and are designed to keep babies limbs from getting stuck in the crib slats. They are not designed to cushion the crib and that’s why there are no product claims on our package or in our ads regarding cushioning.”

BreathableBaby’s breathable bumpers were developed to reduce the risk of suffocation -- the same safety concern the Ordinance addresses, while providing a safer means to keep babies’ limbs from getting stuck in the crib slats. When this happens, babies can potentially damage nerves, develop neuropathy, and damage or break their arms and legs. Babies who get their arms and legs stuck in the crib slats cry and keep their parents and themselves from getting the sleep they need.

BreathableBaby products are available nationwide at more than 400 national retailer and online merchandisers in the U.S. and Canada. Visit http://www.breathablebaby.com for more product information and a list of retailers.
