The program combines play-based learning with rigorous instruction, ensuring that your child has the tools they need to be successful when kindergarten starts.

Studies show that a student develops about one third of their intellectual skills by age six, making it essential to expose young children to academic enrichment. The Bright Kids NYC Preschool Alternative does exactly that, helping them build core skills at a young age. The program combines play-based learning with rigorous instruction, ensuring that your child has the tools they need to be successful when kindergarten starts. There are a total of six semesters of the Preschool Alternative program in the 2012-2013 school year, with each one running for six consecutive weeks.

Beyond the academic components of the program, children will develop their socialization skills through the relationships that they build with their peers and teacher in a fun and creative atmosphere. Children will be encouraged to ask questions and to explore how to solve various problems and logical games. With a maximum class size of five students, our teachers can provide individualized feedback to guide your child during this period of self-discovery. All teachers hold a Master’s in early childhood education and are experienced with teaching preschool.

Children will be exposed to a mix of academic, creative, and movement-based activities. Games and manipulaties chosen for this program will stress educational enrichment. Some activities include singing songs to develop phonics, creating pieces of art that stress color or shape recognition, and learning dance moves that stress body part recognition. Tracing and drawing activities will target development of fine motor skills. Finally, children will begin to develop literacy and math awareness through exposure to printables and various hands-on resources. These activities are also an excellent way to develop foundational skills that pertain to the OLSAT/NNAT, Stanford-Binet, or ERB exams.

The Bright Kids Preschool Alternative has four flexible scheduling options. Both morning and afternoon classes are offered as options for the Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday programs. Children are grouped based on age, with a 2’s and 3’s as well as a 3’s and 4’s class. Throughout the Bright Kids program, your child will work through various hands on activities to develop their understanding of core concepts and build critical thinking skills. Enroll in this program today to place your gifted child in a challenging environment or simply to start academic enrichment as early as possible.
