If one fails to think about the actual production of an idea, all that is left is an idea that could never become a product.

Renown for their innovative style and value, Maxim Lighting and ET2 Contemporary Lighting have been leading the lighting market for over 43 years. Throughout their time, they have been awarded numerous design awards such as Best of Show and the prestigious Arts Award. Now, at the height of their success, Maxim and ET2 Lighting are giving the next generation of inspired designers a chance to win a piece of the pie with their creation of the first annual Bright Ideas Lighting Design Competition.
The purpose of this competition is to inspire the creative minds of designers while keeping them within the confines of the reality of it's use for their target market. Designers are encouraged to consider material, capability of manufacturing, their target consumer, ease of use, and maintenance among other points when developing their ideas. The focus of entrants’ success would be the ability to mass-produce the design while hitting all of these points.
Maxim Lighting and ET2 Contemporary Lighting have been impressed by students' theory of aesthetics and creativity, but have realized that these students lack the consideration for the costs of production. In order to have successful commodities designers need to understand their target market and how to provide them with what they desire for a price within their budget. If one fails to think about the actual production of an idea, all that is left is an idea that can never be made into a product.
Maxim Lighting and ET2 Contemporary Lighting are not looking for a "spare no expense" approach. They believe a product can only be popular if it is attainable. Recent graduates find themselves full of ideas but ill prepared for the reality of their field. School has taught them about beauty, innovation, design aesthetics, but not all designs that are ideal for a gallery translate to the everyday consumer. Maxim Lighting and ET2 Contemporary would like to give students the opportunity to execute this task, and thus the Bright Ideas Lighting Design Competition was born.
With this competition, winners will not only receive cash awards up to $1400 but also, first place winners will win a trip to China where they will gain first hand experience dealing with the manufacturing process. There, they will be able to see how ideas on paper are transformed into beautiful products that are displayed and sold in showrooms. New designers will have the chance to brighten their future.
With Maxim Lighting and ET2 Contemporary Lighting having an international presence and over 1500 showrooms, they are experts in the developmental process and production. Winners, will not only be able to add this experience to their resume, but will also have gained connections to manufactures and showrooms, which often take years to develop.
