BrightStar Care Salt Lake City Enables Alzheimer's Education and Virtual Dementia Tour® Training
BrightStar Care Salt Lake City announces certification and launch of the innovative Virtual Dementia Tour® training program that educates caregivers and health care professionals in the community on Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 4, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- BrightStar Care Salt Lake City, a home care agency providing Alzheimer's disease and dementia care and training in Utah, expanded its training services to provide the Virtual Dementia Tour® (VDT), a dementia simulation for caregivers and health care professionals. The training provides hands-on experience and an unparalleled understanding of what it's like to live with dementia.
"Until there's a cure, take the Virtual Dementia Tour" say's BrightStar Care Salt Lake City owner Tammara Brown. "This virtual experience provides insight and an understanding of the impairment caused by the disease".
The VDT immerses your senses in a world of dementia using adaptive technologies and provides new appreciation of trying to perform activities of everyday living while coping with dementia. The training and experience is geared towards healthcare professionals, caregivers, and family members providing care and support to those afflicted with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
"We are currently part of only a handful of organizations in the Salt Lake area certified and actively offering this type of training – it's a game changer," said Deborah Parker, BrightStar Care Salt Lake City's Director of Nursing.
Utah currently has over 31,000 cases of Alzheimer's disease and this is projected to grow by over 35% by 2025 which is one of the highest growth rates in the U.S. Additionally, in Utah, there are more than 148,000 family members and friends who care for those afflicted.
"Our VDT program allows us to better educate caregivers and health care providers in our community and to better prepare those caring for loved ones impacted by this terrible disease," said Brown.
