Partnering with the North Texas Food Bank, Brilliance Academy, an Addison preschool, planned to raise over 500 lbs. of food to help feed hungry North Texans during the holiday season. Director Kelly Mayberry said “The parents and teachers really made this all possible; they’re the ones who donated their time and money to help us reach our goals.” The event started off on the 12th with each child bringing in canned goods for their classroom and concluded on the 19th at their Brilliance Academy Youth Concert, an event where the kids perform for the parents as a part of the Thanksgiving holiday. “Our students and teachers are excited about helping out in their community; everyone in the school cares about their community.” Said Kelly Mayberry, Director at Brilliance Academy. The Analyzers won the contest among the classrooms and will host a pizza party.
Parents were required to bring in two canned goods as admission to the concert and place them in with their child’s classroom food bank. Food and beverages were sold at the event as well. The proceeds from concession sales will go towards building a new playground for the kids at Brilliance Academy.
About Brilliance Preschool and Academy
On of the premier Addison preschools, Brilliance Preschool and Academy was established in January of 1996 to fill a need for a high quality preschool and day care education. In a period of six years, Brilliance has added Kindergarten, and 1st – 4th grades. This growth is directly attributed to the positive development that parents have witnessed during their children’s preschool attendance at Brilliance. Brilliance Academy’s approach to education is a combination of Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking, Character and Confidence. In developing its methodology, Brilliance curriculum has taken into account the importance of a child’s early formative years, the cognitive phases of a child’s development, the benefits of learning through concrete experiences, and the evaluation of the eight intelligences as presented by educator Howard Gardner.
