Dr. Julia Wood begins as Medical Director at Brookhaven Retreat, a unique voluntary residential facility exclusively for women with mental health and/or substance issues.

Dr. Julia Wood began her new role as Medical Director at Brookhaven Retreat on August 9, 2012. “So glad to finally be here at Brookhaven,” said Dr. Wood on her first day.

As Medical Director, Dr. Wood will be very involved in all client treatment planning. In addition, she will be providing guidance on how to manage the Medical Quality of the facility and will provide leadership to the physician, allied staff, and clinical staff. As Medical Director, it is important for Dr. Wood to uphold the mission and objectives that Brookhaven Retreat has set in place.

Dr. Wood’s past experience working for The Center for Women’s Mental Health at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she provided evaluation and treatment for psychiatric disorders associated with female reproductive function including premenstrual dysphonic disorder, medication management during pregnancy and the postpartum period and mood changes associated with menopause, allows for her to understand that population that attends Brookhaven Retreat. Also, Dr. Wood was an attending psychiatrist in the Dissociative Disorders and Trauma Program at McLean Hospital and she was an instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, where she continues to serve as an editor for the Harvard Review of Psychiatry. Dr. Wood’s passion for women’s mental health and interest in working with trauma survivors and women with borderline personality disorder makes Brookhaven Retreat excited for her to join their team.

About Brookhaven Retreat
Brookhaven Retreat is a women's treatment center nestled on a naturally beautiful 48-acre site secluded in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. It has helped hundreds of women across the United States overcome depression, trauma, anxiety, substance use and a range of other behavioral health challenges. Brookhaven’s Founder, Jacqueline Dawes, has predicated its gender-specific treatment on “healing emotional breakage” for women. In this way, she has established a sanctuary and a place where women can feel safe, secure and cared for by a staff of highly trained professionals.
