On Friday June 8, 2012 staff from Brookhaven Retreat attended a seminar in Knoxville called Personality Disorders: The Challenges of the Hidden Agenda. During the class, they were further educated on how to evaluate and treat clients when there is the presence of one or more personality disorders.
The seminar featured Jeff Riggenbach, Ph, D., LPC as its speaker. Dr. Riggenbach is licensed in Oklahoma and is currently practicing at Laureate Psychiatric Clinic and Hospital in Tulsa, OK. Dr. Riggenbach is an expert on the treatment and care of borderline and other personality disorders and has over 10 years of experience in research and clinical practice with patients with these disorders. In addition, Dr. Riggenbach’s seminars have received top marks for the professional knowledge taught, Dr. Riggenbach’s practical application of techniques, as well as, the overall entertainment value of the lectures.
After the seminar, the Brookhaven Retreat staff in attendance will have mastered identifying all personality disorders that are found in The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition (DSM-IV-TR™) published by the American Psychiatric Association. They will have honed their skill of identifying the hidden agendas associated with a personality disorder that occur during treatment. In addition, they have a better understanding of how to handle and treat the personality disorder. Staff returned to Brookhaven with more knowledge of how to manage destructive behavior and develop better relationships with clients with these disorders.
