Too many environmental commandments begin with ‘Thou shalt not.’ Our negativity has prevented our ideas from catching on.
Topeka, Kan. (Vocus/PRWEB) February 14, 2011
Everywhere we turn today, heated rhetoric, hand-wringing and short-term fixes hamstring the global dialogue about the environment.
Humanity needs a collective positive vision to inspire constructive engagement and positive change.
In his new book, Beautiful and Abundant, Bryan Welch explores the power of human visualization and offers an engaging and practical method for building a collective vision of human sustainability one person – and one endeavor – at a time. Welch argues that conservation alone can’t provide humanity with a sustainable, prosperous future. Before society can invent that future, it needs an inspiring vision. Welch challenges readers to address the big picture: What kind of world do we want to live in?
“Too many environmental commandments begin with ‘Thou shalt not.’ Our negativity has prevented our ideas from catching on,” Welch says. “If we want to involve people in the invention of a sustainable, prosperous future, we need a different approach.”
Welch asks four questions as touchpoints in the exploration of humanity’s future:
- Is it beautiful? If the future lacks beauty, would anyone want to live there?
- Does it create abundance? Humanity needs a surplus of natural resources to perpetuate its innovation and creativity.
- Is it fair? Individuals are only willing to make a personal sacrifice for the greater good if they feel that they benefit from that greater good.
- Is it contagious? To create major change, society needs ideas that catch on. Great conservationists have to be great communicators.
Beautiful and Abundant sells for $25.95 and is available through MotherEarthNews.com or at (800) 234-3368.
