As a former in-house lawyer for Samsung Electronics America Inc., author Bryan E. Hopkins has dealt with many different types of law cases and questions of legality related to corporations. In his new book, “Legal Risk Management for In-House Counsel and Managers: A Manager’s Guide to Legal and Corporate Risk Management” (published by Trafford Singapore), Hopkins presents a comprehensive guide to the legal issues corporations and organizations face and what can be done to minimize the risk of legal action.
“Companies must take steps to recognize legal risk in order to implement effective processes and procedures to transfer, mitigate and control risk,” explains Hopkins. “Not only should an organization’s lawyers be involved in the management of legal risk but management and executive management must also take responsibility for understanding and controlling risk at all levels of the organization.”
“Legal Risk Management for In-House Counsel and Managers” is an essential book not only for lawyers, but also for corporate and risk managers, compliance professionals and human resources professionals. Hopkins uses examples of legal situations that he has faced as an in-house lawyer and details several processes that companies can implement to protect themselves against government fines, penalties and class action and onerous lawsuits.
Packed with sound advice from an experienced lawyer, “Legal Risk Management for In-House Counsel and Managers” covers a wide range of topics related to business law, suitable for small business owners and Fortune 500 companies. Hopkins says, “Companies, no matter how big or small, can implement effective controls and processes to minimize exposure to the legal risk that all companies face in today’s marketplace.”
