Bulk TV & Internet announces its first installation of the new Thomson/DIRECTV HD distribution head end system at the Courtyard by Marriott Princeton in Princeton, NJ. The system developed by Thomson in conjunction with DIRECTV, offers a cost-effective solution to the challenges of providing HD content to the hospitality industry.

Representatives from Bulk TV and Thomson conducted the installation using compact COM100 Server and COM24 Cards February 10, and performed a beta test to monitor the system's functionality. The installation and test were successful, and the system has enabled the hotel to serve guests with 24 DIRECTV HD channels.

HD has become an expected amenity among hotel guests, however, it can be costly and challenging for hoteliers to provide. Some hotels have encountered issues when upgrading their televisions in order to provide HD programming. The HD content must be encrypted at the head end and decrypted in the rooms in order to comply with programmer requirements.

Thomson created the COM100 Server and COM24 Card to offer an economical and Pro:Idiom compliant solution. The DIRCTV HD content is provided over a coaxial cable infrastructure utilizing Thomson's COM24 cards as the primary video serving technology. The compact COM 100 server supports two HD streams, each of which hold 12 COM24 cards providing up to 24 programs of MPEG2/MPEG4 HD content to the property.
