We needed to be able to answer very specific questions about who has received funds from Holy Cross and how the receipt of those funds may have influenced their decision to enroll
Conway, NH (Vocus) December 16, 2010
For the past couple of decades, the College of the Holy Cross has placed considerable emphasis on helping its students finance their education, specifically meeting 100% of the financial need of every admitted student, while remaining need blind in the admissions process. In a move to streamline this effort and continue to bring the best students to Holy Cross regardless of their ability to pay, the college has added a new ace up its sleeve: data mining and analysis technology from Rapid Insight Inc.
Founded in 1843, Holy Cross is an exclusively undergraduate institution with approximately 2,700 students located in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Holy Cross Financial Aid Office is using Rapid Insight® Analytics to examine student enrollment data to answer questions about aid recipients. By analyzing items such as household income and family size, the college can gain a better picture of the student population as a whole and better allocate its need-based aid. Based on one of their first analyses with Rapid Insight, a major decision was made to continue with current policies of remaining need blind in the admissions process.
“We needed to be able to answer very specific questions about who has received funds from Holy Cross and how the receipt of those funds may have influenced their decision to enroll,” explains Lynne Myers, Director of Financial Aid at Holy Cross. “Rapid Insight Analytics is allowing us to analyze our data to assist in the decision-making process of how Holy Cross can best use its financial aid dollars to meet our admissions objectives.”
The business intelligence software from Rapid Insight is designed to significantly impact enrollment management. “Our goal is to make predictive modeling and data analysis as simple and straightforward as possible across higher education,” says Michael Laracy, President and CEO of Rapid Insight. “We’re in the business of helping colleges like Holy Cross make optimal use of their historical information for data driven decision making.” The software eliminates the need for programming, quickly and easily allowing users to explore, visualize, and understand their data.
“We needed to become more data driven in our decision making processes," says Dr. Frank Vellaccio, Senior Vice President at Holy Cross. “Rapid Insight is enabling us to do that.”
