It's a great way of breaking down the buying process - and empowers both the consumer and the winemaker.

James Forbes, the UK Director of trade body Wines of Argentina, has announced that online farmer's market for wine, Naked Wines, is "turning the industry wine-buying process on its head."
This follows the recent Argentinian Trade Tasting, in which Naked Wines ordered $100,000 worth of wine via a live online auction - with their customers selecting the wines, and the producers bidding for a slice of the prize, all within one afternoon.
"The producers loved the simplicity and the speed at which they secured an order, and being in control of both pricing and volume. I've no doubt that as the idea catches on, the industry will see the concept rolled out on a much wider basis," explained James. "It's a great way of breaking down the buying process - and empowers both the consumer and the winemaker."
"There was a fantastic atmosphere at the event," explained Rowan Gormley, Founder of Naked Wines. "To have ten producers in a room, each bidding against one another for a guaranteed order, alongside the customers who picked the wines, it's wine buying as it should be - quick and direct."
"We launched the concept back in March to discover and promote unsung Australian producers, and we'll be hosting our third in October to support South African producers."
