BVT Publishing Offers Free Access to College Textbooks

BVT Publishing, the publisher of affordable textbooks, now offers students free online access to selected college textbooks in mathematics, communications, psychology and philosophy.

BVT Publishing, a US-based publisher of college textbooks, has launched a new program that offers online access to selected textbooks for free.

The "Free Access" program is the company's latest initiative to make textbooks more affordable for students. Under this program, students who register for a free account can read any of BVT's Free Access textbooks online. Anyone wishing to purchase a physical textbook can still do so. BVT offers direct-to-student sales of the printed books, with prices typically in the $30 to $40 range, and also offers direct student rentals for under $30 per semester. Campus bookstores can also order the textbooks at wholesale pricing.

BVT has been tackling the problem of over-priced textbooks for eight years, primarily by offering textbooks similar in content and production quality to the market leaders, but with prices typically 60 percent lower than the large publishers. Last year, BVT released most of its textbooks in eBook form priced at $19.99 (for a six-month subscription). This was a significant discount over the $40 to $70 prices of most eBooks on the market, and was well received by both professors and students. BVT anticipates an even stronger response to its Free Access initiative.

"BVT's textbooks are traditional, full-length, comprehensive texts," said Richard Schofield, BVT's Director of Business Development. "We also offer advanced eBooks, study guides, labs, and online student resources at very competitive rates."

Unlike other free initiatives in the industry, BVT's Free Access textbooks are not "Open Source" or "Open License." Students who register and log in can view the books for free at http://www.BVTLab.com; however, BVT retains all rights to copyright and distribution, and no one may redistribute the content without permission.

Currently, BVT offers Free Access titles in mathematics, psychology, philosophy and communications. If the Free Access program proves successful, additional titles and other disciplines will be added. The program may also be extended to BVT's custom publishing division, which offers one of the most comprehensive custom publishing programs in the industry.
