Philadelphia-area gardeners will draw inspiration from the unique floral displays at the first-ever Byers’ Choice flower show and horticultural competition this Mother’s Day weekend.
The show will run from noon to 5 p.m. on May 8 and 9 at the Byers’ Choice Visitor Center, 4355 County Line Road, Chalfont, Pa. Admission is free.
The horticultural competition is open to all non-professional gardeners. Entry deadline is April 27; all entries must be dropped off at Byers’ Choice by 10 a.m. on May 8. Participants can visit http://www.byerschoice.com for rules and regulations and an entry form.
Prizes, including 2010 Byers’ Choice Caroler figurines, will be awarded for the top entries in each class. Categories include:
- Wedding: A nosegay arrangement
- Time for Tea: An arrangement incorporating a tea theme
- Fruits and Flowers: An arrangement with a Spring/Summer feeling
- Patriotic: A traditional red, white and blue or Colonial arrangement
- House Plants: Plants accepted include African Violet, Cactus, House Plant—Flowering and House Plant—Foliage
Flower show attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the Byers’ Choice Visitor Center, including a life-size Dickensian street scene, miniature Christmas village and formal gardens.
