AOL Names Ted Cahall as Head of AOL Technologies

AOL announced today that Ted Cahall will lead AOL Technologies, working to improve the performance of key AOL technologies and the AOL network, including its infrastructure and data center operations, and align AOL's technology efforts with the company's business strategy. He succeeds Balan Nair in this position.

    Cahall will also continue to lead the Platforms business unit, overseeing AOL Search, MapQuest, e-commerce, and publishing platform and tools, reporting to AOL President and COO, Ron Grant.

Prior to joining AOL, Cahall was Executive Vice President and COO of United Online's Internet properties, including Classmates.com, a leading community-based networking company with web properties in the US, Sweden, Germany and France. He was also Executive Vice President of the United Online Web Services division, overseeing the company's various web-hosting brands including Freeservers.com and photo sharing service PhotoSite.

Prior to that, Cahall was Chief Information Officer and Senior Vice President at CNET Networks, where he managed the company's web site development, technology infrastructure, back office systems and played a critical role in the development and growth of CNET Networks' leading brands, such as CNET, GameSpot, News.com, CNET Shopper, Download.com, Webshots, and ZDNet.

Cahall has also held technology management positions at Bank of America and two technology start-ups. He started his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he received a U.S. patent for systems performance analysis.
