Study Proves Plant Calcium Supplement Reverses Bone Loss and Help Combat Osteoporosis

The Results of an independent clinical study investigating the effectiveness of the AlgaeCal® Bone Health Program are proving that a plant calcium supplement can reverse bone loss and help combat osteoporosis.

San Antonio TX (PRWEB) April 23, 2008 -- The Results of an independent clinical study investigating the effectiveness of the AlgaeCal® Bone Health Program are proving that a plant calcium supplement can reverse bone loss and help combat osteoporosis.

In conjunction with the issuance of the Surgeon General's Bone Health Report, where a "call to action" was issued to the nutritional and healthcare industry to develop bone health programs that incorporate the three basic components of an effective program:

  • Improved nutrition
  • Increased physical activity
  • Improved health literacy
The objective of this study was to respond directly to the Surgeon General's "call to action" by developing a bone health plan based on the three components suggested by the Surgeon General, and to subsequently test the plan by examining changes in BMD during a six-month study.

This study was designed as an open label practical clinical trial or pragmatic clinical trial (PCT). PCTs are often used to decide between non-pharmacological alternatives when decisions are being made as to what recommendations the physician can make to improve patient satisfaction and costs of treatment.

All study participants completed a baseline DEXA screening test and were given a pedometer based physical activity program, a health literacy notebook, a strontium citrate supplement, and a calcium supplement containing a plant sourced form of calcium and other nutrients.

Gilbert Kaats of Integrative Health Technologies Inc explains "The results of this study provide evidence that following the AlgaeCal Bone Health plan per protocol can facilitate positive increases in bone mineral density."

"These results prove that a natural osteoporosis treatment can reverse bone loss and actually grow bone." Says Dean Neuls, CEO of AlgaeCal International.

About AlgaeCal Calcium

As opposed to all other calcium products that are laboratory derived and inorganic supplements, the AlgaeCal® calcium occurs naturally in sea algae found on the South American coastline. The sea algae is harvested live and cold processed to help preserve the characteristics of its phytonutrients. AlgaeCal contains 73 minerals, of which 28-31% is calcium and 8-10% is magnesium with a 9.5 pH.
