Below, the website is presenting the Northern California vacation rental traveler analysis performed to a database of 21,756 opted-in travelers who visited the Northern California area from July 2008 to January 2010.
Northern California Metro Destination: San Francisco
San Francisco visitors like to shop around. 67.39 percent of the travelers who inquired on San Francisco vacation rentals were also interested in comparing offers from bed and breakfasts, and hotels in San Francisco.
A similar pattern showed that 50.45 percent also wanted to receive offers from nearby cities including San Bruno, Pacifica, Millbrae, Daly City, Burlingame, San Mateo, Montara, Foster City, El Granada, Oakland, Belmont, Tiburon, Half Moon Bay, Emeryville, Sausalito, San Leandro, and Berkeley.
San Francisco visitors range among early planners and last minute planners. 35.47 percent sent requests 3 or more months in advance; 19.45 percent sent with 1-2 months in advanced, and 43.16 percent within only 30 days of arrival.
The study showed that San Francisco is popular among big groups and couples. 31.40 percent of the total inquiries were from couples looking for romantic getaways, 21.90 percent were from families planning family vacations with children, 12.74 were from solo travelers, and 32.21 percent were from people planning family reunions and larger groups with 4 or more adults and children.
Northern California Family Vacation Destination: North Lake Tahoe
North Lake Tahoe visitors showed a high interest in comparing offers from different lodging types. 67.98 percent of the travelers looking for North Lake Tahoe vacation rentals accepted to receive offers from hotels and bed and breakfasts. 37.28 percent were also interested in receiving offers from nearby destinations like Truckee, Carnelian Bay, Tahoe Vista, Kings Beach, Donner Lake, Olympic Valley, and Squaw Valley.
21.69 percent of those looking for North Lake Tahoe vacation rentals sent inquiries three or more months in advance of their stay, 53.67 percent did so within 30 days prior to the arrival date, and 22.05 percent looked one to two months in advance.
North Lake Tahoe is also a destination for families and big groups. 41.83 percent of the inquiries were for groups of four or more people, while 42.02 percent were families with children. 16.09 percent were couples or parties of two.
Northern California Popular Destination: South Lake Tahoe
South Lake Tahoe visitors also showed interest in comparison shopping. Besides inquiring about South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals, 63.71 percent accepted to receive offers from hotels, and bed and breakfasts in Lake Tahoe area.
54.31 percent inquired on other nearby destinations like Kirkwood, Lake Tahoe, Genoa, Glenbrook, Tahoma, West Lake Tahoe, Woodfords, and Gardnerville.
30.96 percent of the inquiries were received 3 or more months in advance, 24.83 percent 1-2 months prior to arrival date, and 42.39 percent were last minute inquiries sent within 30 days.
30.02 percent of the inquiries included children, 10.98 percent were from couples looking for romantic getaways, 58.62 percent were from groups larger than 4 adults, and 11.41 percent were solo travelers.
Northern California Destination: Mammoth Lakes
The study on Mammoth Lakes revealed that 68.18 percent of the travelers who inquired on Mammoth Lakes vacation rentals also wanted to compare offers from bed and breakfasts and hotels. 55.08 percent were also interested in receiving offers from June Lake and North Fork.
Mammoth Lakes visitors are mostly last minute planners. 27.20 percent inquired for rentals 3 or more months in advance, 23.79 percent inquired with one to two months in advance, and 47.18 percent only 30 days prior to arrival date.
Visitors to Mammoth Lakes range mainly between families and big groups. 40.67 percent of the inquiries were from families with children, 13.05 percent from couples, and 45.52 percent from people planning reunions of larger groups.
Northern California Destination: Yosemite
Stats on Yosemite revealed that 85 percent of the travelers who inquired on Yosemite vacation rentals also wanted to compare offers from vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts, and hotels.
The majority of Yosemite visitors inquired at the last minute. 37.16 percent inquired for rentals 3 or more months in advance, 20.24 percent inquired one to two months in advance, and 41.08 percent only 30 days prior to arrival date.
Yosemite is a favorite among big groups. 37.22 percent of the inquiries were from families planning family vacations with children, 10.08 percent from couples looking for romantic getaways, and 52.07 percent from people planning reunions of larger groups.
